The Waukesha Preservation Alliance (WPA), a group dedicated to preserving historic properties in Waukesha, has received a $5000 challenge grant from the Wisconsin Preservation Fund to assist in the acquisition and preservation of the Bartles-Maguire Gas Station located at 422 E. Broadway on Waukesha’s south-east side. The WPA needs to raise about $25000 by September 7th to preserve this property. The building (also known as Wally’s Service Station from 1940 -1967) is located on the corner of Broadway and Hartwell and is a rare “house-style” gas station.

The building was made a local landmark in 2010 and is eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. Individuals, the Waukesha Preservation Alliance, and the Waukesha Landmarks Commission have been working to find an interested buyer to preserve this important Waukesha Landmark. The WPA has identified several potential buyers but funding is needed to make this sale a reality. The Wisconsin Preservation Fund is acting as the fiscal agent and has set up an account for this project. Some days it can be draining when I have to go into syndication mode to market an article, product, or service. Granted, online marketing may not be a physically demanding job, but often times it entails the monotonous task of logging-in to various accounts and arduously entering all the necessary information such as the title, description, and keywords or tags over and over... This can become very time consuming and psychologically draining. Unless you have an automated process, you can only imagine the time that one must invest when you have a dozen or so media sources and three or four campaigns to launch in any given day.

For any online marketer the need is present for an affordable and simplified marketing system to accomplish effective campaigns which attain optimum recognition by both targeted traffic and search engines. For many this is accomplished with article marketing through submissions to various article directories, but I believe there are two potential setbacks to article directory submission – aside from the fact that implementing them with social media sites like Twitter and Facebook entails an additional step…

It's relatively unnecessary to correlate the role of computers in the business of website design and internet marketing. Clearly you rely on computers 100% to accomplish anything related to these two components of the internet. So what do you do, either as a business owner, consumer, or developer when you encounter problems on your PC? I would tend to believe that the average individual takes their computer to a computer repair center and has it fixed? On the other hand, people like myself; we try to solve the problem ourselves, or tinker with our operating systems until it becomes absolutely necessary to take them to a computer repair center. Why? Well, perhaps it our belief that we have the necessary knowledge to fix it our self, or maybe it has something to do with our financial status or ego? For me its a toss-up between the first and second, because I have some PC repair skills, and I figure why pay if its not necessary, right?
Today is day three that I am utilizing one of my back-up PC's because I attempted a do-it-yourself job that failed. Needless to say this has been a rather unnecessary inconvenience in the line of business I am in, but it was a lesson well-learned. Its a good thing that I'm humble enough to know when the timer has come to take my computer in to be repaired, rather than destroying it all together. Although, I must add that Jeff at North American Computer had quite the diagnosis to figure out when it came to my PC. Sorry Jeff. Next time I'll just bring it in and have one of you guys do it... lol
So the moral of the story is: Take your computer to North American Computer or your local computer repair center and save yourself the headache -- not to mention the PC technician's headache!

Engaging in Social Media

In a recent article by a friend, he humbly admitted that:

a) he's generally not an overly socialable being; and
b) he is not a big social media guru.

Like me, he admittedly doesn't really see any benefit in Twitter. And Facebook? He does post to Facebook. So do I... and thousands of others for that matter. But my friend hasn't been real active on Facebook, and I have to admit that often times I don't really see the overall point of sharing my opinions and ideals. Although this doesn't necessarily appear to be the case at the present time, his statement did make me pause and realize how I too once fell in the category of non-social.
I'm not some hermit who doesn't like to socialize with other people -- I'm certainly not anti-social. I just have never been one to be quick to talk and engage in conversation a whole lot. I prefer to listen or let my thoughts run their course. And I love silence! I look at it this way. If I'm among someone else and they're not talking, I should respect their desire to be silent. Right or wrong, that's just the way I am, and I'm confident that I'm not alone in exercising these ideals.

Entering 2011, it seems that just about everything revolves around the world of social media. MySpace, Twitter, and Facebook are just a few of the more popular platforms. Out of curiosity I did a search on Google for "social media venues" and discovered that there are literally hundreds of social media platforms for topics that include: Arts, Connecting with friends, Cooking, Dating, Fashion, Finance, Games, Networking, Health, Music, News, Pets, Photography, Real Estate, Sports, and the list goes on... Apparently I live in a cave because I had no clue to the magnitude of the social phenomena? This not-so-new way of communicating and connecting with people and businesses has really taken a foothold in many parts of the world, and it appears to be growing to epic proportions. All I can say is wow!

With the creation of the I-phone and other popular devises which allow people to connect to the internet from anywhere that a microwave signal can be attained, the possibilities of communicating with friends, associates and clients is without parallel. Some people I know receive constant social messages on their cell phones and they promptly reply or "tweet" back. Even the larger news networks and media corporations are prominently engaging social media.

What is social media really all about?

In my estimation it appears that the one true benefit to engaging social media is the fact that unlike a cell phone, Facebook and other social media venues allow people to share with all their friends simultaneously with one action or gesture. There's no need to make numerous calls, and just for this feature alone I find social media a valuable and priceless asset that deserves the attention is has received. But it goes beyond having a venue to chat or rant. To many these platforms are an essential means of being social with family, friends, and co-workers.

Is there a right or wrong way to engage social media?

My belief is that general principles of social norm apply to being involved in social media. For example, if one of your friends shares something with you on your wall or profile page, the absolute least thing you should do is to affirmatively acknowledge their friendship with a response. Essentially, if you choose that person to be your "friend", then treat them as such. Ignoring people's social engagement with you, eve if its not necessarily directed toward you specifically, is nothing less than rude! Having a litany friends is not some contest to see who can attain the largest number. Engaging social media is a live, living, social lifestyle that deserves the same attitude as though we are walking down the street or an isle of a grocery store. When someone says hello or asks you a question in the check-out lane, what do you do? Hopefully you answer affirmatively, and perhaps you meet new friends through this gesture of social kindness? The same token applies to social media. For example, when a Facebook friend writes something on their wall that appears to be directed generally, in the least a click on the "like" button, or even a written response is a honorable friendly gesture. These simple rules of etiquette apply more so when a friend posts something on your wall. It is common decency to respond; even if your not a frequent Facebook visitor and see the post days later. Respond anyway! Late is better than ignoring...

For a lack of better words I will refer to internet marketing as manipulating search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing in such a way that your website sits happily on the first page where people see and visit it! Although the term manipulating can invoke underhanded or dubious connotations, that is not the context I wish to apply in the specific science of internet marketing that I am going to discuss.
To be successful in internet marketing there are certain principles and rules that must be followed and it shouldn’t cost you a dime. It's all available for free!
This article elaborates on variations of internet marketing such as get rich quick schemes, and the importance of investing in valuable resources so that your website or blog can become successful and maintain success. This article is not intended to criticize the aspiring internet marketer, but rather to help you to achieve the success that you desire.

The Science of Internet Marketing

Many of us know that there is a lot of time invested in getting a website to rank in one of the first few spots of the search engines. Moreover, it requires valuable, credible resources to make it happen. This is predominantly true in competitive niches where page results are in the hundreds of thousands, or even in the millions. While rather unfortunate, many aspiring internet marketers simply cannot achieve decent placement; even in instances where the page results are lower and easier to dominate. Why, you ask? If you've fallen prey to any of them and you’re investing hundreds or thousands of dollars, I strongly recommend that you reconsider your source. Preferably a credible source that is FREE! You’re throwing your money away because all of the information that you need to become successful in the online business market is available for FREE...

When I noted above that your efforts may be the cause that success has yet to come your way, what I meant is that if you’re trying to accomplish online success quickly through one of these "get rich quick" website traffic systems, you’re trying to cut corners and accomplish something the easier, softer way. Many individuals make this mistake. Consider the direction that you are focusing your efforts and the resources you are using. Who are you listening to? Blogging isn’t hard to do; anyone can put up a website on their own server and run it successfully without problems. Understanding the process is really simple. You can literally have a website up and running within in a matter of minutes. But knowing how to put up a site is only part of it; you also need to know how to give it traffic.

A blog, short for “web log”, was originally a way for people to have an online diary; they would update people on their lives in a personal way. It took a while for this concept to catch on but when it did we saw the inception of Live-Journal and Blogger.
There are three main types of websites: personal, corporate, and product. The first two are essentially obvious; the focus would be either a single person’s perspective or from the perspective of a company. The last type is a little bit more complex; you could have a blog about a product or a series of products that are all related.
The standard website is one that you would use either a laptop or a desktop to post text; outside that scope, you would have sites labeled by their media type (i.e., vlogs for video logs) or the device used to post on them. The first is that your interface is better organized and separated. I’m a big fan of organization, and I happen to think their “Baby Croc” package is just a little too chaotic, but then again I am somewhat of a control freak. The second is an important one for me – the email address. On the Baby Croc package, your email addresses are the same, so if someone emails admin@oneofyourdomains.com, it’s also going to come to admin@anotheroneofyourdomains.com. This can be messy, and once again, is the antithesis of organization.
Yes, the reseller package is $24.95 (compared to the $9.95 for Baby Croc), but well worth it in my opinion. One thing to note is that you will not need a hosting plan that is bigger than $24.95 per month. There are hosting companies that will try to charge you a lot more and you should watch out for hidden charges.

So, now you know where to host your blog and you’re ready to purchase your hosting. The one thing you’ll notice is that you’re going to need a domain name in order to sign up for an account. There has been one registrar that I have relied on for several years now and that's Hostgator. I've also used GoDaddy, but they seem to nickle and dime you to death for applications that should come standards with your domain; such as email...
The best value is purchasing long-term registration and hosting plans. Moreover, there appears to be some truth to the rumor that if your site has a long-term domain registration, it has more value with the search engines. As such, I've found that the 2 or 3 year plans with Hostgator are best. And why change now? In my opinion, if it's not broken, don't fix it!

The Politics of Marketing a Political Site

It has been about eight weeks or so since I was asked to build a website for a gentleman who is running for a seat on the Wisconsin State Senate. Although I am not very active or knowledgeable in politics, I do have rather good research and marketing skills that would enable me to successfully achieve such an undertaking with a little bit of hard work and determination. So I accepted the offer and set out to design, develop, and get this political website ranking well in the SERPS by time the primary's begin on September 14, 2010. Oh. I might add that this gentleman is an enrolled member of the Waukesha County GOP, the Wisconsin GOP, and the Washington County GOP. Yep. He's a legitimate Republican party candidate, with all the necessary paperwork and registration requirements having been completed. Needless to say, I felt honored...

The Brotherhood of GOP Members?

Again now, I am not real privy on politics, and perhaps this may or may not be a common misnomer, but I have always had the belief that certain groups always stuck together; especially politicians. If you think about it, it's sort of like being on a team of sorts. I always perceived that police, firemen, and lawyers all stick together and defend one another for the cause in which they represent and are members of, and I especially believed that this principle held true of politicians. Granted, perhaps when elections are near you may find candidates challenging one another and trying to smear their name through the mud in hopes of defeating their opponent, but as a whole are they not united as being the same team members? I guess that I simply believed that GOP members stood shoulder-to-shoulder in hopes of maintaining a majority in their respective government seats, and that as a whole they would support and defend one another. With this conception in mind I set out on my marketing path with the goal of attaining backlinks from various GOP websites and affiliations to get that necessary boost in the SERPS.

Waukesha County GOP

Once I finished developing the website, the first on my list of GOP websites was the Waukesha County GOP because of the fact that Tim is running for Wisconsin State Senate District 33 in Waukesha county. I simply visited the website. As the picture below depicts, this site is a warm welcome to any website developer because they provide links to the respective GOP candidate websites:

So you click on the link and there are all the Waukesha County GOP candidates and other GOP candidates listed all nice and neat according to their respective senate districts.

I contacted the Waukesha County GOP webmaster and requested to have the website included under the Senate District 33 category, respectively. I believe it was the next day that the Waukesha County GOP webmaster indicated that the backlink was put on their site. To me that was awesome! A good keyword anchored backlink from the Waukesha County GOP website. Moreover, Tim was now listed among his fellow candidates for the Wisconsin State Senate race.

It was a day or two later that Tim contacted me to let me know that his website was taken OFF of the Waukesha County GOP website due to the fact that he was not yet an official registered member of the Waukesha County GOP. A simple mistake, but who would have thought that one would actually have to be a specific member to be on a website that simply lists Wisconsin State Senate candidates? Nevertheless, as soon as Tim was notified of this he went onto their website and registered; thereby becoming an official member of the Waukesha County GOP. As such, I contacted the Waukesha County GOP webmaster and let him know that Tim was now an official member, and again Tim's website was linked from the Waukesha County GOP website. But this was not the end of the malady... Again Tim was notified that the backlink to his website would be removed for the reason that his membership was not old enough. Tim was further notified that the Waukesha County GOP committee would address the issue at their next meeting to discuss whether or not they would allow a backlink to his website. Whether or not they would allow a link to Tim's site?

So here we are in mid-April and still no link to Tim's website despite the fact that he is a legitimate candidate for the Wisconsin State Senate District 33 seat; a member of the Waukesha County GOP; a member of the Washington County GOP; and a member of the Wisconsin GOP! I won't even get into the matter of why Tim's website is not listed on either of these other two GOP websites... POLITICS!

Three times Tim's website was on and off of the Waukesha County GOP website. Is it just me, or does this subject make you wonder what the problem is?

As Tim's webmaster I respectfully ask anyone and everyone for your support in getting his website listed on the appropriate websites that he is a valid member of, and to which he is a party to...

Hey there world! I am happy to announce that I have finally been able to create a website for Liberty Web Marketing which goes along with this blog.

Development is still underway, but for an initial implementation I believe that things are looking pretty well so far... It's been a lot of endless hours creating and tweaking the layout, images, etc., not to mention posting all of the content!

Website Developement and Search Engine Optimization

Lets face it. Facts are facts, and when it comes to getting visits to your website there is no way around achieving page visits unless your site ranks well in the SERPS. Unless your site is on the first page -- even in position 8 or 9 -- chances are your page visits are going to be few and far between.

Notwithstanding ranking well for a given keyword, achieving the first page status can some times be a good challenge to any webmaster, especially when it comes to popular niches with high volumes. Some of the more difficult niches are those that deal with making money online, or to earn money online. The last time I checked there were over 23,000,000 results in the SERPS for the term "Earn Money Online". And coupling that term with blogging exacerbates the difficulty in achieving good placement in the SERPS. For example, the term "How To Earn Money Blogging," has 183,000,000 results in the SERPS. That's right 183 MILLION! WOW! In instances where your niche or website development strategy involves the objective of achieving good placement in the SERPS for a term such as those listed above, there is only one sure fire way of achieving your goal, and that is backlinks. Now I don't really want to delve into the dynamics of backlinks at this point, because aside from backlinks there is one more crucial element that comes into play which is overlooked by many, and that is website development.

Website development entails numerous components which determine whether your site sinks or swims. Even if your site has thousands of backlinks pointing to it, if it is not properly developed for search engine optimization chances are the site will not maintain its placement in the SERPS. Sure, the backlinks might get your site on the first page, but how long the site is going to maintain that position must be the most crucial element that is factored into the equation. Website development -- good website development that is -- can only be characterized by sound SEO practices through a seasoned webmaster who knows how to apply the necessary components of search engine optimization to even the most challenging circumstances. Some of these key SEO components include sufficient original content, proper keyword use, and topical substance that achieves viewers who likely will subscribe to the site.

So if your site has a million links pointing to it and still it is lost somewhere in cyberspace, you may wish to entertain the idea of having your website independently analyzed by a webmaster who can give you an objective overview of potential issues. The Myths About Backlinks and their Differentiation Based Upon Do Follow and No Follow Attributes

I find it simply amazing that there is so much content floating around in cyberspace about the various attributes of back links and whether or not their value has any significance for your website or blog. Some critics will vehemently proclaim that no follow back links have no value whatsoever! And others declare that a back link, is a back link, is a back link... Others simply state that keyword anchored backlinks with either do follow or no follow attributes have positive value as long as they are acquired from a source that: a) has relevant content to the key words utilized in the link; and b) is credible by scrutiny of the search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Bing. In any case it is important to know what does and does not work.

First off let us consider the sources, right? Who are these various people, and what are their interests in convincing you that what they are saying is gospel? Are they trying to sell you something? Are they trying to get you to join or subscribe to something? And what are their credentials? More importantly, what is their standing in the internet community? I can only personally testify to what I have read and applied to my sites, and what I can share is that when I search for information on the internet I carefully scrutinize the SERPS for places that have some form of credibility and whose site has a reputation of credibility and actually demonstrating what they declare! If a site says that their methods of attaining specific back links gets better results in the SERPS than the other, it is of great significance that their site ranks well in the SERPS and perhaps even has some Page Rank? Not that page rank plays a big role in ranking in the SERPS, but it does signify that perhaps the site has been around for a while; or in the least that it has been branded with acceptance by the search engines.

Essentially the only difference between the do follow and no follow attribute is that a "no follow" attribute is a hyperlink inclusion that tells search engines not to pass on any credibility or influence from the host site to an outbound link from that site, thereby allowing the host site to maintain its integrity or page ranking assignment. From what I have learned and know from applying various techniques is that, key word anchored backlinks from a site or post content that is relevant to the keyword is what really matters when it comes to sharing backlinks. Personally, whether attaining a do follow backlink from a site that has been assigned a page rank will help your back link efforts in getting your site to rank well in the SERPS is still questionable to me. I say this due to the fact that I have sites that I have acquired anchored backlinks from sites with PR and it has not proven to be any better of a source -- so far, that is. I f anything, getting backlinks from sites with trust rank plays a larger role than page rank, but that is a whole different subject and context overall.

All of the myths about having only do follow backlinks are just that -- myths! And if someone is trying to convince you otherwise, please be careful not to trip over any of the strings that are attached....
